Wonarth restores land, community, and dignity. The Legal Justice Wing is the home of the third register: legal work in the public interest, always pro bono, in formation today and published as it begins.
The Wing undertakes pro bono public interest work on questions where the constitutional rights and dignity of citizens are systematically compromised. Its instruments are Public Interest Litigation before the Supreme Court of India and the High Courts, policy submissions to Ministries and Standing Committees of Parliament, representations before Law Commissions and reform bodies, and interventions in strategic constitutional matters. The Wing selects matters on public interest, systemic reform potential, and the Foundation’s capacity to carry a matter to substantive relief. It does not act for individual clients and it does not accept engagements.
Five questions,
one constitutional anchor.
Employee salary protection. The wilful non-payment of contracted salaries strikes at the right to livelihood, which the Supreme Court of India has recognised as a facet of the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. The Wing’s first matter in preparation addresses the gap in the statutory framework that leaves employees without an effective deterrent remedy against wilful salary default.
Workplace safety and dignity for women. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 addresses harassment at the workplace. Coercion that exploits the power asymmetry of employment beyond the immediate workplace, at social events, gatherings, and off-site settings, engages the same constitutional dignity concerns. The Wing works on extending protection to these patterns.
Consumer and home buyer protection. Under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016 and the Consumer Protection Act 2019, with a focus on wilful defaults by large counterparties against individual consumers who lack litigation capacity.
Forced labour and bonded labour. Extending the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court of India on bonded and forced labour in the unorganised sector.
Environmental restoration and climate rights. The Foundation’s founding engagement: legal support for ecological restoration, climate rights, and biodiversity protection.
Individuals affected by salary default, workplace coercion, or developer misconduct may write to the Foundation through the Contact page. The Foundation responds with general guidance and referral to competent legal counsel or support organisations. The Foundation does not solicit matters, does not accept engagement as anyone’s advocate, and does not enter client and attorney relationships. Writing to the Foundation creates no such relationship.
Is what I write to the Foundation kept confidential? Yes. The identity of a person who writes to the Foundation about workplace coercion or salary default is not disclosed to the employer, to other employees, or to any third party without that person’s written consent.
Will the Foundation name me in any filing or publication? No. No personal detail is used in any filing, publication, or communication without written consent.
How is my information handled? In accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023: notice at collection, use only for the stated support and referral purpose, and deletion after a defined period unless longer retention is consented to in writing.
The Wing is guided by an Advisory Panel of practising advocates in constitutional law, labour law, gender law, and consumer law, who serve pro bono and advise on matter selection and drafting. The Panel is being constituted and will be announced on this page.
Once a matter is filed, this page will carry its procedural status and links to published orders. The Foundation’s public communication on pending matters is confined to what may lawfully be said; commentary is reserved for published orders.
Wonarth Foundation is not a law firm and does not provide legal services. Its legal justice work is charitable, is undertaken entirely pro bono, and complies with the rules of the Bar Council of India governing advocacy for public causes. Advocates associated with the Wing act in the public interest without fee, and no paid work of any advocate is routed through the Foundation.
